Wonderful, wonderful photos by Aaron Huey.
National Geographic’s best wildlife photos of the year.
Books
Judge a Book by Its Cover – can you guess the correct Amazon Rating?
LibriVox – a great project to make audio books of books in the public domain! Now, if I didn’t suck at reading out loud, I’d definitely join. Well. Maybe I’ll do it anyway.
Self-referentiality is good stuff.
Films
Simon Callow on gay roles in movies.
If you could marry a fictional character, which one would it be?
Politics
Bob Harris writes about his travels in South Korea (to the North Korean border) – very interesting and funny.
Presti has an interesting array of links up on homosexuality in India.
Completely Different Things
Deadra, this one’s especially for you. Again. West Wing Buffy Cross Over Fan Fiction.
The Dull Men Club. For all your dull needs.
A little Timewaster – make the pipecleaner dance!
Rathergood.com – check out their song videos. I think, especially their Independent Woman clip is inspired! [Played btw. by Elbow, who are really great as well.]
What’s the correct reaction to something like this?
An agonized scream of “Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!”?
Or repeatedly banging my head against a wall?
To be honest, I’ve actually read a series of Josh/Sam/Angel/Wesley-fic a few years ago.
*sigh* Now you know the horrible truth. My soul is tainted.
I will pray for your safety, my darling. I will not let your soul be tainted by somebody else but me. ;)
But I should have known that you know about this already…
Thank you for your sympathy.
I’ll let you know which fictional characters I’d marry when I’ve made up my mind. I will probably have to up the ante and go for fictional polyandry, hehe.
Yeah, polyandry sounds pretty good when confronted with the choices… I’m looking forward to reading your list!
You could always go first :)
You know, that’s really, really hard… :)
Well… among at least the contenders are:
Mr. Knightley (Emma)
Touchstone (Sabriel)
Shadow (American Gods)
Howl (Howl’s Moving Castle)
Ashitaka (Princess Mononoke) (10 years later)
Alfred Borden (The Prestige) (you know which one)
Sam (True Blood)
And I’m pretty sure that I will come up with a hundred more, given the chance.
I’ve had trouble seperating characters I find fascinating (eg Sam Vimes) and characters I would sleep with (eg Captain Jack Harkness) from those I could actually imagine myself being married to…
SAM SEABORN (The West Wing), the love of my fictional life. He is perfect, except for the fact that he works about 160 hours a week so I’d never get to see him.
I’d also marry:
COLONEL BRANDON (Sense and Sensibility), ‘the kindest and best of men’
MR. KNIGHTLEY (Emma) – because he gave the first and best “You complete me”-speech, ever
INSPECTOR THOMAS LYNLEY (Inspector Lynley Mysteries), and not just for the house in Chelsea, either
MAJ-GEN JONATHAN “JACK” O’NEILL or COL JOHN SHEPPARD (Stargate) – I really can’t decide…one is more attractive, the other is more geeky, but both are snarky as hell and love to blow stuff up
ANTONY DINOZZO (NCIS), because he has somehow become the most complex and most intriguing version of that old careless-but-promising-sidekick-in-need-of-a-father-figure -archetype.
There are probably many more, but I have to stop the the lovelorn sighing before I drive myself crazy.
[Fixed the double comment]
Yeah, I find a lot more characters fascinating that I would want to marry, too. If it was fascinating characters, the least would be reeeeeeeeeeeeally long.
Your list is not very surprising, although I don’t know Antony Dinozzo. ;)
And I came up with some more!
Landen Parke-Laine (Thursday Next)
Edward Bloom (Big Fish)
Edward Ferrars (Sense and Sensibility)
OMG…Landen, of course!!!
You’re forgiven for not knowing Tony, since you don’t watch the show. Suffice to say he looks like Michael Weatherly.
Thanks for forgiving me…
Michael Weatherly, huh? Nice!
Yeah, Landen. Wonderful man…
