But now I’m going to spend the rest of my afternoon trying to figure out why I broke up with Anita Blake.
Yeah, I can’t really think about that yet because I haven’t yet broken up with her. As embarassing as it is, I still plan on reading her new book (which is coming out in June). Just so that I can bitch about it. [And it has Edward again.]
Let me know when you thought about it, though!
The easy one is the When – That was The Harlequin, which means I had more stamina than most of the other ex-fans. (Go me? Or shame on me?)
The Why…now that’s a tough one. Maybe it was the moment when her Superpowers of It’s-All-About-Me-Sueness took over (although this Mary Sue is remarkable in lacking even the emotional maturity of a twelve-year-old.) Or the moment when any problems became solvable by having repetitive, badly-written sex. Or the moment when the combination of those completely fucked up hangups with that I-will-still-claim-to-be-the-most-enlightened-person-around-even-if-I’m-being-completely-ridiculous-and-talking-to-ex-hustlers-and-incubi-attitude made me hate LKH’s preachifying guts. Or the moment when any semblance of a plot evaporated in breathy moans and dreadful aphorisms.
Naw…it’s a tie.
I’ve broken up with Anita Blake as well.
Not only because of too much cheap sex for the good cause (though I always thought this very boring and skimmed through these scenes – who cares for Hamilton’s little desires.) but because of the lack of editing. If I detect sentences without a verb, sentences mixed with other sentences etc I get really moody.
Another reason was this general immoral attitude mixed with very moral reasoning that got on my nerves.
Both of you are completely right. Yet, enough time passes between each book that I seem to forget how truly dreadful those books are and that my hunger for low-brow resurfaces.
It’s sad, really. And I know it. I just can’t help it.

Hmmm… wenn du abgesehen von Edward in Twilight Edward bei Anita Blake meinst, muss ich dir sagen, dass AB Edward weder sexy ist, noch sexy sein soll. Er ist ein freakiger Psychopath.
Aber ich bin mir sicher, dass es schon wieder mehr Kinder gibt, die Edward heißen. Von diesen ganzen schwangeren Teenagern. ;)
