Walking with Dinosaurs

[Warning: this review is very, very excited. Actually, I’m the one who’s excited just thinking about this, but you can kind of tell by my review, so if you can’t stand geek-fangirling, don’t read this.]

Walking with Dinosaurs is the theatre production of the BBC show of the same title.

Plot:
A paleontologist takes you back in time to see the evolution of the dinosaurs.

Okay, people, this. was. so. AWESOME! I only went because one of the kids my parents had planned to take along couldn’t go in the end, so they had a ticket too much, but ohboyohboy the next time this show is anywhere near me, I’m so going to be there, with or without alibi kids.

So, the show basically consists of giant dinosaur puppets and smaller dinosaurs robots prancing around on stage, while the paleontologist gives you some scientific facts. And then the dinosaurs roar and then they fight for a bit and then they leave to make room for the next dinosaurs. Conceptwise, there is not much to it.

But, people, FIGHTING DINOSAURS! Life-sized fighting dinosaurs.

The puppets and robots were absolutely amazing. Beautifully done and their movements were really great.

So, we went with my two nephews (my nieces are still a little too young for this), the younger of which is 3 and a half now and I’d say that’s the youngest a child should be when seeing the show. In fact, we had to repeatedly assure my nephew that it was just a show, and nobody was going to get eaten and that it was perfectly safe and he still had a minor panic attack before the show. (During, he was totally caught up – there was no time for fear then.)

What can I say? If you’re in touch with your inner child and/or like dinosaurs, this is so going to be for you.

Summarising: Trust me, there is no better way to spend your birthday. Or any other day.
