Ludwig Hirsch [German] is an Austrian singer/song writer. He’s currently on tour with his band. He’s currently on his “Vielleicht – zum letzten Mal” [Maybe – for the last time] tour where he plays a bit of a best of his songs between 1980 and 2010. We saw him in the Konzerthaus.
I have to admit that I know only a small part of Hirsch’s songs. I know all the songs from his first album – Dunkelgraue Lieder – by heart, and then the odd one here and there. So I thought that a Best of tour would be the perfect choice.
The first half pretty much met my expectations. I didn’t know all the songs, but it was a strong choice of songs. Hirsch also had a few monologues with musical company which were really nice. He has a great voice and is a good storyteller.
Unfortunately, in the second half, it got a little dreary. I mean, Hirsch is an Austrian artist and therefore pretty much obsessed with death, violence, mental illness and all things that make life ugly and that is fine. But the second half almost exclusively focussed on death and how he misses dead people and how he hopes he will meet them all back in heaven and I would have gladly given my left hand for a song that has a little of his trademark black humour.
He caught himself with the encore, when he played his biggest hit, Spuck den Schnuller aus:
And it’s definitely worth to have seen him live once, but I don’t think I will be going back for repeat performances.
