Do you snack while reading? Not really. I snack while watching TV, though!
What is your favourite drink while reading? Coffee. Coffee is always the answer to favourite drink questions.
Do you tend to mark your books while you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you? I mark the hell out of them. This is how books I love look like after I’ve read them.
How do you keep your place? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book open flat? Bookmarks. I even use actual bookmarks because I own like 500000 of them, most are of the “free with purchase=ad” variety. They are good for two or three reads at the most before I have to throw them away. What can I say? Bookmarks go through a lot chez kalafudra.
Fiction, non-fiction or both? Mostly fiction, though I try regularly (and fail mostly) to read non-fiction. I do buy non-fiction books and I think they’re really interesting and then I take the novel from the shelf and read that instead.
Do you tend to read to the end of a chapter or can you stop anywhere? I can stop anywhere, though I tend to finish sentences and if I can, paragraphs. But mostly, I just jam as much reading into the time I have for it. If that means reading the first two sentences of the next chapter because the bus is driving another 5 meters before I have to get up, so be it.
Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you? Never done it, don’t think I ever will. But never say never. :)
If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away? Nah. If the context can’t illuminate it, it can’t be that important.
What are you currently reading? Not the End of the World by Christopher Brookmyre (yes, still. I was reading American Gods pretty exclusively towards the end) and The Lucifer Effect by Philip Zimbardo (yes, still. See above question about non-fiction). This year, my reading numbers suck.
What is the last book you bought? I finally received today the mass market paperback of Dave Eggers’ Where the Wild Things Are. Can’t wait to read it.
Do you have a favourite time/place to read? No. Wherever, whenever. Though I absolutely do have to read before falling asleep. And even if it’s just that one sentence.
Do you prefer series books or stand-alones? Both. Depends on what I’m in the mood for.
Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over? Did I mention Christopher Brookmyre? :P There are a lot of authors I recommend. And I love to get recommendations.
How do you organize your books (by genre, title, author’s last name, etc.)? I have it separated in fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, comics, art, and special interest (in my case, fairy tales and mythology). Within those categories, in alphabetical order (Author’s last name) and within the author mostly by publication date/series.
Who’s overthinking their bookshelf? Me? Naaaaaaaahhh.
