Flanimals is a picture book written by Ricky Gervais, illustrated by Rob Steen.
Plot:
The book is split in three parts. In the first one, Gervais introduces the flanimals – some weird, rather unknown creatures. In the second he details some of their behaviors and finally he provides you with a test to see how well you know the flanimals.
Flanimals is wonderfully weird and unique and funny, in a slightly mean way. I liked it.
On the wikipedia page it says that Flanimals is the first part in a children’s book series and I was quite surprised, because I would never have pegged it as a children’s book. In fact, I thought that it was pretty great to get a picture book for adults that keeps that read-aloud quality that children’s books have.
I mean, look at this:
Or another favorite:
The whole thing just seems inspired by a love of language (or at least weird words), much like The Meaning of Liff, but mixed in is Gervais slightly, or actually less slightly mean sense of humor.
Summarising: fun.
