Plot:
Rainne is cursed to turn from elven maiden into a lustful ogress every night. She doesn’t particularly relish the effects of this, but she has arranged her life satisfactorily around it. But then comes Prince Theo and commands Rainne to join him at the palace. Not only does Rainne have a hard time hiding her condition from him, both her elven and her ogress half a very drawn to Theo. Rainne becomes desperate to break her curse.

Sunset, She Fights is an entertaining read that didn’t inspire many emotions in me, either good or bad. If you are looking for something light and fun, it would do nicely.

The book cover showing a green ogress and a gray cat.

Sunset, She Fights is a quick read, well paced and well written enough to be quite a page-turner. In its quickness, it doesn’t really have time for subtlety, so the lesson Rainne learns and the way the story progresses is dealt with heavy-handedly, but I didn’t really mind it. In fact, I liked that the book has a lesson it wants to impart.

That being said, it is not a particularly memorable book. As quickly as it is devoured, it is also digested and forgotten. That’s also because I never really had the time to get very emotionally invested. There was just enough attachment to the characters here that the story still works and that I wanted things to end well for Theo and Rainne, but not enough to really make me involved in their story.

That being said, it might be different for another reader – there is nothing outright objectionable either in the writing or the story that would make it impossible to get more into it. I just didn’t. But I did enjoy it while it lasted.

Summarizing: fun.
