More to Love is a novella by Georgina Kiersten.
Finished on: 30.6.2024
Plot:
Jamir is only barely keeping the book store he inherited from his grandparents afloat. Outside of the store, he barely has any spare time. Emmy just moved to town to teach wrestling at the local university and to get a fresh start after his divorce. Jamir’s book store is one of his favorite places, and that’s not just because Jamir is gorgeous. Almost despite themselves, the two start talking, but will attraction be enough for them to overcome their differences?
More to Love is a really cute, short romance that reads well and has a lot of diversity which is always a plus for me. I wouldn’t have minded more of it.
If you are looking for an angsty romance, this is not for you. The overall vibe here is cozy indeed- Although there are some conflicts, they are not really between the two guys but rather the baggage they bring to the relationship. There are sex scenes, though, so if that doesn’t jive with your definition of cozy, be prepared.
I liked the cozy vibe, and I liked both Jamir and Emmy. Even though the novella is short, their relationship isn’t quite as fast as we often get in romance novels, and that is really my style, I have to say. There is one scene where the book gets really close to miscommunication territory, one of my least favorite tropes (when a simple conversation or outright question could clear up all of the problems a couple has). But fortunately, they just have the fucking conversation and that was just amazing to read. The diversity of the book, above all the fat representation was what drew me to it in the first place, and I thought this was very well handled, too.
On the flip side, I think the book should have been a novel instead of a novella. A couple of things just didn’t feel fleshed out enough. The writing, though serviceable, could have used more polishing, too. It made me feel like this was written in a bit of a hurry.
But overall, the book was a perfectly sweet treat that gave me everything I’d hoped it would.
Summarizing: a candy of a book.
