Plot:
Tomas and Linda meet when Tomas takes an art class where Linda is the model. Bonding over the fact that they are both trans and both immigrants in Paris, they also find a joint artistic language.
L’esquisse mixes animation and staged footage to recount a true story and to capture the lonely feeling of being an outsider, as well as the power that lies in finding somebody “like you”. I’d say, it’s an artistic autobiographical exploration, somewhere between artist statement, personal insight and documentary. Given that Cali only learned to draw as an adult (if I understood it correctly), it is also an impressive testament to the fact that you can always learn to pick up a new craft – I really liked the style. In fact, I just really liked this short, period.
