Plot:
Megan (Keira Knightley) and her boyfriend Andrew (Mark Webber) have been together since high school. In fact, nothing much has changed for Megan since high school even though she’s approaching 30. Then Andrew proposes and Megan is shocked by something so adult encroaching in her life. Chance lets her meet teenaged Annika (Chloë Grace Moretz) who is intrigued by the older woman who behaves so little like an adult. Megan, too, is drawn by Annika’s teenager life and it doesn’t take long for her to move in with her and Annika’s dad Craig (Sam Rockwell) while she mulls over Andrew’s proposal.

Laggies may not be my favorite of Shelton’s film but it is sensitive, fun and sweet – just the right fare for a cozy Sunday.

Seen on: 5.6.2016

Plot:
Pat (Anton Yelchin), Sam (Alia Shawkat), Reece (Joe Cole), and Tiger (Callum Turner) are the punk band The Ain’t Rights. They are currently touring, desperate for any gig they can book that will actually pay. They accept an offer to play at a place they know nothing about and are taken aback when they find out that it’s actually a neo-nazi club. But since they can’t afford to decline, they decide to power through. Unfortunately when they’re done, they walk in on a murder and suddenly their situation turns very bad indeed.

Green Room has been getting pretty amazing buzz and great reviews. I have to admit, I can’t entirely follow the hype surrounding the film. It’s a strong film, no doubt about it, but it did not blow me away.

Remake of: 13 game sayawng [13 Game of Death]
Cast: Mark Webber, Devon Graye, Tom Bower, Rutina Wesley, Ron Perlman
Part of: Secret Society Screening at the /slash Filmfestival
[Reviews by cornholio and Maynard Morrissey.]

Plot:
Elliot (Mark Webber) is about to get married to Shelby (Rutina Wesley) which is added stress (also financially) to a life that isn’t already very easy: his brother Michael (Devon Graye) has a disability, his father (Tom Bower) lives his life in a retirement home, mostly occupied with hating everybody. Both have to be supported by Elliot who is not really the most succesful salesman. That’s when he gets a call from a mysterious voice that offers him easy money – if he just plays along with their game by completing 13 tasks. They start off harmless, but that’s not how they stay.

13 Sins uses a concept that we’ve seen quite a bit already, but it is well done and entertaining, albeit not groundbreaking.
