The Forever Story – a really cool project, where people are trying to write the longest story, started by Nick Hornby. And all for a good cause – for every bit each person contributes, TalkTalk donates 1 Pound to TreeHouse, a charity for kids with Autism. [Unfortunately, as TalkTalk sponsors the whole thing, you can’t read it, but it’s read to you and it takes pretty much forever, if you want to read/hear the whole thing…]

Roald Dahl meets James Bond.

Am I weird that this account from a publisher makes me really want to get my hands on a slush pile, preferably as my job, which somebody pays me for? Maybe it’s the bookbitching, but bad books are great!

Joshua Henkin writes about a very interesting writing exercise.

How does one develop taste in literature?

And I found this LJ group, who post comics everyday – really cool things (Be warned: they do have slash). I especially loved this – “The Bookseller“.

The Longlist for the Booker Prize 2008 is out. Oh, and the shortlist, too.

Robert A.  Heinlein had a great sense of humour.

Turning to completely different things:
This is one of the more disturbing things I’ve heard in my life: Believers pray for McCain’s death after the election, so Sarah Palin will get to be president. No matter what your political or religious beliefs may be, nobody should pray for anybody’s death. No that I think it will actually help, but it’s just plain sick.

This sounds like a really cool thing – a fake wedding.

Christian pick-up lines. Need I say more? [‘The name is Will. God’s Will.’]

James Franco as Allen Ginsberg?

Did I mention that THIS is the one reason that I started caring about who actually wins the US elections? I mean, Obama generally seemed like the intelligent(and I mean, literally, as in mano a mano) choice to McCain, but I wasn’t truly concerned. But if “he croaks and the Crazy Bitch takes over”,as excerpted from a recent conversation with a friend, things are going to get really, really fucked up.

  2. James Franco as Ginsberg? Really? I’m just not able to picture it. The thought kind of makes me feel a bit sad, to tell you the truth. But I can’t quite put my finger on why, maybe I’m just moody today.

(Blatantly ignoring the section of the post on McCain/Palin/praying, because even though I’m not suprised in the slightest it makes me feel a bit ill… Say what you want about Australia’s PM looking like an old lesbian, he’s nothing on the supersize dose of weird that is US politics…)

  3. Yeah, I don’t know about James Franco either… probably because up till now, I’ve only seen him in the little bit stupid, little bit slow stoner role. Not how I picture Ginsberg… [Although he was probably stoned, too. :)]

[Feel free to ignore the US election. That’s probably the best course of action anyway.]
