Answering Questions Asked Through Google XVII

Today’s question is:

“why is jason bateman playing weird chara[chters]”?

To which I would like to answer: Is he?

He played a teenage werewolf, but so did Michael J. Fox and anything that Michael J. Fox played may be many things, but weird is not one of them.

He played a mutant, but not really.

He played an adult, who behaves like a kid, but in the end, that’s what guys usually do.

He played a detective in a spoof and every actor should play in a spoof, so that’s cool.

He played one of the nicest guys there possible is.

I think that his roles are more boring than most actors. If you would like to see really weird, go and check out Christopher Walken. Or Johnny Depp.

And maybe you would like to tell us about some actors of the weird in the comment section? Or maybe you would like to tell me why Jason Bateman is weird?

  1. How are his roles boring milady? Huge Bateman fan btw.

You are forgetting the fact that he was lead on perhaps the greatest show on TV, Arrested Development.

  2. Oh, I like Jason Bateman, I didn’t mean to say that he was a bad actor or anything.

But he usually gets the more traditional roles, not the weird, eye-catching ones.

And I’ve never seen Arrested Development, so I can’t really comment on that.

  3. Awww, I *loved* the mutant.
And why we get all kinds of imported canned-after-one-crappy-season-trash (or, as the ads here put it, ‘hit-shows’) but not “Arrested Development” is a mystery to me. Oh well…

I don’t know how to put this without being insulting, but I think Jason Bateman is one of those excellent supporting actors in cinema, a bit like Tony Shaloub or J K Simmons. He is likeable, recognizable, a gifted actor, and he makes everyone around him shine… but any producer trying to cast a lead role which would fit his type would call Aaron Eckhart.

  4. Maybe I should organise Arrested Development. Duly noted. :)
TV sucks. Didn’t you hear from Marcel Reich-Raniczky? [Or however you spell that…]

And you’re right, Jason Bateman is a great support actor and Aaron Eckhart is his main actor twin. But I think that JB would have it in him to play the lead, if you’d just let him.
    Don’t know.

  5. Yes, I heard about everybody’s favourite critic and his luv for modern television. He’s a snob. Always has been and always will be.

JB could probably carry a movie by himself…but why should he have to? I like what he’s doing now, and I don’t want him to stop, ever. More mutants!!!

  6. I wasn’t surprised by Mr. R-R either. Well, what can you do.

hmm… Why should he have to? More money, more fame, more fangirls? But I like what he’s doing, so I’m fine with the current state of things. Mutants are great!
