What do you think? I’m honestly very surprised that You Don’t Mess With the Zohan didn’t get one single nomination.

Other than that, I’m shocked that I’ve seen 7 (seven) [SEVEN!] of the nominated movies…

  1. I’ve seen 12 :-) sadly, not the one with Paris in it. Setting that aside, I think The Happening takes the cake any day, although Marky shouldn’t be blamed. Al Pacino should get worst actor. And i dunno why Alba is being nominated! She was the only decent thing in The Eye (and I don’t mean physically :-))

  2. Oh yeah, The Happening was really bad. The thing with movies like Disaster Movie or The Love Guru is that it’s so obvious that they’re going to be bad that giving them a Razzie is almost wasted spite.
But with films like The Happening, from a director who pretends to make art and who’s hungry for critical acclaim and who definitely takes himself to seriously – there the Razzie is so much better placed.
Unfortunately no one learns from the experience. Why is M. Night Shyamalan still allowed to make movies?

I haven’t seen either of the Al Pacino movies, but I’m really wondering what happened to the guy. It’s sad to see, really.

Haven’t seen The Eye, I can’t really tell about Jessica Alba. But I’m willing to defend her in memory of Dark Angel.

  3. Dark Angel and Sin City :-)

My mum was childhood friends with Shyamlan and she says that even then he used to tell scary stories at night with a torch lighting his face :-) I watched the movie mainly because of her insistence that I accompany her to the theater! After Sixth Sense, he seems to have totally lost it. My friends and I laughed ourselves hoarse when we saw The Village :-D

  4. I have to admit that I never liked any of his movies. Might be because I already knew the twist of Sixth Sense, might be because I guessed the “twists” of the other movies, might be because I just can’t relate to his way of making movies. Anyway – what about Unbreakable or Signs or *shudder* Lady in the Water? They all sucked.

Maybe you can tell your mum to call him and tell him that he should get off his high horse and let people tell him when his screenplays suck? :)

  5. OK, here’s the thing. I’m going to go ahead and back Love Guru. Yes, I promised myself never to watch it but ended up laughing nay chuckling at the film anyhow. Sure the concept invited derision but trust me when I say that he nailed the pretentious guru culture quite effectively. I fail to understand how Love Guru was *that* different from say, the Austin Powers films.

Moving onto The Happening. Terrible film and such a lousy lousy performance from Marky Mark. That said, Mr Night did achieve a sort of restraint and near brilliance with Unbreakable (which happens to be my fav M Night film) and let’s not forget that despite the logical and narrative flaws with Signs, the mood was perfect with some brilliant moments. Phoenix watching TV anyone?

  6. You know, I kind of like the Austin Powers movies. There are some bad jokes [some really bad jokes], but mostly these movies are so crazy it’s funny.
I haven’t seen Love Guru, so I don’t know if I would think it more or less funny than Austin Powers. Maybe I’ll watch it. Maybe.

Unbreakable would probably be my favourite of the M. Night’s movies as well, if I had to choose a favourite. But mostly, he concentrates so hard on making his movies twisty (and fails), that he forgets the rest.
But I do think that he could be a good director – you’re right, there are some moments, where you can almost see it. He just needs to let other people write the screenplays.

  7. I KNOW I ruined 6th Sense for you, kalafudra.
And I KNOW I’ll never be allowed to live it down.
    *sigh*

Having said that, I only saw 5 of the nominees, and while I agree that Marky Mark was outacted by that fake pot plant, I genuinely loved “Dungeon Siege”…because that film transcended badness and reached the promised lands of OMG-I-can’t-stop-laughing.
Besides, if you combine orcs, ninjas, Shaggy and blue iridescent contact lenses, what could possibly go wrong?

  8. @deadra:
Didn’t say anything, did I? I don’t think that apart from Shyamalan, anyone is necessary to ruin his movies. :)

Okay, I give you the absolute hilarity of Dungeon Siege. It really was the best Uwe Boll comedy. So, let’s be happy that he gets a life achievement award.
