I love the Kaiser Chiefs. Their concert in Vienna on Saturday was the third time I saw them play live – and it’s always a feast. They are on their Off With Their Heads Tour.
Dananananaykroyd were their support. They’re a young (indie) rock band from Glasgow.
I have to admit their music didn’t appeal very much to me. Lyrics are important to me, but I didn’t understand a word they were singing. And before you insert some joke about Scottish here [which is the sexiest accent ever, btw], I had no problem understanding them when they were talking.
But they tried very hard to get the crowd worked up, even doing a Wall of Death – “but fighting is for losers, so we’re gonna do it with hugging”.
Unfortunately, I’ve rarely seen a crowd that was that immobile. Dananananaykroyd didn’t really have much to work with.
[Sorry, guys! I tried to participate in the Wall of Death but only ran into the man in front of me, who didn’t move an inch.]
Well, they weren’t bad. Just not my cup of tea.
Then the Kaiser Chiefs came on stage. And you’d think that crowd, who have been saving their energy up till now would explode right away. Unfortunately, it took about 4, 5 songs until they got moving.
I didn’t let that stop me. I know almost all the songs by heart and screamed myself hoarse. And I sweated more than I have since I don’t know when. Long time anyway.
And they just rocked. They played all my favourite songs, even Tomato in the Rain, which I didn’t think they would because it’s one of their calmer numbers.
Unfortunately, the concert was rather short [although I don’t think that they could play long enough so it wouldn’t be too short :)]. They played for an hour and then another 15 minutes encore.
Ricky Wilson [on whom I have a not-so-secret crush] was energetic as usual, at one point he ran off stage and climbed on some (metal) bars on top of the (drinks) bar. He then had a beer while watching the band do a great instrumental.
So, if you like their music eve a little bit, go and see them live. They rock!
