Top 10: TV Theme Songs

So, I’ve had this idea in my head for quite a while… I thought about my Top 3 TV theme songs. Then about my Top 5. Then it became the Top 10. Then I decided to blog about it and share this with the world. This is of course only my personal taste. There was no poll or anything, just me.

If you like it, I could make a regular feature of Top 10 lists. Leave me a comment and tell me. :)

Let’s get started!

Number 10: Batman

It’s so bad, it’s good.
Neal Hefti – Theme Song

Number 9: Friends

See, I have a soft spot for this song because I love the show so much. It’s catchy. It’s fun. And it always puts me in a better mood.
The RembrandtsI’ll Be There For You.

Number 8: Torchwood

The theme is simple, but it hits all the right notes [pun not intended].
Murray Gold – Theme Song

Number 7: The Golden Girls

Don’t look at me like this: The show was good. And the theme song was, too.
Andrew Gold [Wonder if he’s related to Murray Gold?], performed by Cynthia Fee – Thank You For Being A Friend

Number 6: The Addams Family

Pure cult.
Vic Mizzy – The Addams Family Theme

Number 5: Smallville

So the show is crap. I know. Tom Welling’s hot though. Anyway, the song is really good. And that’s what it’s all about here.
Remy ZeroSave Me

Number 4: Charmed

Okay, think about the show what you will (and if you’re me, you don’t think a lot of good about it), but the theme song is great. I never really saw the connection to the show, though.
Originally by The Smiths, covered by Love Spit LoveHow Soon Is Now?

Number 3: X-Files

Not a fan of the show. But there’s probably the most famous whistling in the world [Second: Always Look On The Bright Side. Third: Bill’s whistling in Kill Bill]. And its creepy atmosphere really goes well with the show.
Mark SnowThe X-Files Theme

Number 2: The Pink Panther

Oh, come on, do I seriously need to explain this?
Henry ManciniTheme Song

Number 1: Angel

Haunting cello, beautiful melody and wonderful fit for the show.
Darling Violetta – Angel (Sanctuary Extended Remix).

So, now you’re allowed to rip my list apart. :)

  1. Go on! Make this a feature and give me a reason to call you Rob Gordon ^_^

    I have to think about the themes for a bit before I can comment on that.

  2. Okay…I give up.
    I can’t even begin to choose my own Top 10. I can’t even do it if I cheat and split them up into Top 10 Instrumental Themes, Top 10 Theme Songs, and lots of other categories.
    I just love too much of the stuff. And I have more of it on my harddrive than should be considered healthy (up to and including a “Club Version” of the Bob the Builder Theme).

  3. No ripping, I promise – I think I agree with most of these :)

    Though not the Friends theme, I’m afraid. Too reminiscent of high school for me!

    I think I’d replace it with the “Crossing Jordan” themesong – the 2nd one, not the original…

    So, is this a challenge or a threat? ;)

    A Club Version of the Bob the Builder theme? Seriously?

    Yeah, shortly after posting I thought: Shit, I forgot the Mad Men Theme and the Six Feet Under Theme and the True Blood Theme. I should have made a Top 15. But anyway, nothing’s written in stone. :)

    @Nath:
    You’re welcome. Always reminds me of lazy afternoons. :)

    @baph:
    I didn’t know the Theme song from Fringe. But the Battlestar Galactica Theme isn’t my cup of tea. :)

    @liberrydwarf:
    The Crossing Jordan Theme song is nice, too… But not nice enough for my list ;)

  5. Definitely a challenge.
    I love lists – provided other people make them, obviously.

    I *still* can’t stop thinking about what my favs are. But there are definitely a few hot contenders you haven’t mentioned, and they’re all taking turns playing in my head. (That is nice enough while we’re talking about “Cold Case” or “Avengers”, but when I start humming “Suicide is painless…” with a kitchen knife in my hand, people around me get worried, for some reason.)

    As always, I BLAME YOU.
