Video Vriday

Today we get really Austrian. And I mean really. Texta [German link] are probably the best hip hop group from Austria and Attwenger are well, they’re special. Not really folk music, not really pop, they are something in between. And one of the best live acts I’ve ever seen. Together, Attwenger and Texta are greatness.

Texta ft. Attwenger – (so schnö kaust gor net) schaun

The video is really cool because it’s so simple, but a really effective idea. And I love how the expressions of the passing people are captured.

Bonus Songs:

To hear what they sound on their own, here’s my favourite song by Attwenger, Kalender (the video actually has nothing to do with the song, but I couldn’t find a better one):

And if you speak German but don’t understand this song, or only parts of it, don’t worry. Even some Austrians have difficulties with their dialect. Although Kalender is one of the songs you can understand best. One song you can’t understand at all is Muamen:

I have no idea what it’s about. [Some mice have lice in their mouth and some other things.]

And here are Texta on their own. This song is called Sprachbarrieren (Language Barriers) and was their first big hit:

Their last big hit was a franchise song to the feature film to (one of) the most successful Austrian TV shows ever (and yes, that’s the explanation for all the people in wife beaters):

And you went to the concert? I’m so jealous (though I shouldn’t complain, I know).
