Storm Front is the first book in The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. [My review of the prequel Restoration of Faith.]
Plot:
Harry Dresden, wizard PI, constantly struggles for money. Until he gets two cases at once: A woman asks him to find her husband, who has started to dabble in magic. And the police, specifically Lieutenant Murphy ask for his help in a double-homicide. The body guard of gangster Johnny Marcone and a call girl from the agency of vampire Bianca St. Clare were killed during sex: Their hearts were ripped out. Following his leads, Harry soon starts to fear that he bit off more than he can chew.
I’m not usually much for crime or noir detective fiction. Not my cup of tea. But I enjoyed Storm Front (with a little lag in the middle). Harry is a cool character, Butcher has a fine dry sense of humour and there are many great ideas to this world, so it’s fun to read.
I started to read Storm Front and arrived pretty quickly at the middle of the book. And then, suddenly, I didn’t want to continue to read. So, I put it away for about a month and then continued. I don’t really know why I needed this break, but I did. Anyway, afterwards I had some problems remembering all the characters and details and taking a break like that makes for disjointed reading.
Nevertheless, I did like it. I liked Harry and Murphy, the dynamic of their relationship, and I really loved Bob.
I don’t really know yet what to make of Susan… it felt to me like she was thrown into the story and the whole love interest thing came a little bit out of nowhere. [Please take this statement with a grain of salt because of the aforementioned break.]
Most of all, though, I enjoyed slowly discovering the world Butcher built and Harry’s voice – the sarcasm and dry humour.
I will be continuing to read this series, but little by little. I don’t feel the urge to read it all and right now.

[Ugh. Don’t google Storm Front without clarifying in some way that you mean the book.]

I hope you keep going with these: they do grow on you, I swear… they’re some of my favourites!
I plan to continue to read them, no woories about that. And I really did like it.
