Planning My TV Program

Now that most of the TV shows I’m watching are in their summer break and there aren’t as much summer shows that I watch, I have time to catch up with older shows that I’ve been meaning to watch for a while but somehow never did.

Currently working on

I was thinking about working on my anime education and watching Fullmetal Alchemist and Avatar: The Last Airbender. And since deadra loves it so much, I thought I’d try NCIS or NCIS LA, or both.

Is there anything you’d recommend that I should absolutely see, whether anime or not?

  1. You should definitely try both Avatar and Fullmetal Alchemist, but if you need to pick one go for Avatar. Fullmetal is a lot darker in some ways but also has a lot of “anime silliness” that Avatar avoids, being a Nick show.

    • Oh, I was planning on seeing both. Crazy person that I am, I was looking for additional recommendations. :)

But thanks for the anime silliness warning, I do have a rather low threshold for that.

          • Atrocities = War Crimes.
Yup, war crimes. Displacement, massacres, that kind of stuff.

And the silliness in FMA is basically that some people have a trademark silly gag that is repeated. i.e. Ed going berserk at being called short; Or Havoc training her dog…her way; Or Armstrong having muscles and showing them off at every available opportunity.

General sweatdrop-moments. I never minded it. I actually appreciated it, because it broke up the darkdarkdark sadness of the show.

  2. anime-series:
Naruto (But you might notice that people like us are not the target group and that the way Naruto talks is totally annoying for adults.).I also greatly liked “Attack 1” as a kid but I think you wouldn’t really like it.

    Movies:
“Akira” is a must see. I can also really recommend “Like clouds like the wind”, a movie about a girl-princess called Ginga. And “robotic angel” (a classic. though I thought it overrated).

    Non-anime-series:
    “Scrubs”.

    • I’ll give Naruto a try. I’ll see how I deal with it. :)

The movies are on my list. Unfortunately, that list is reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally long.

Yeah, I could watch Scrubs, I’ve only seen a few scattered episodes so far. Good idea. [My sister, the doctor, always says, it’s the most realistic medical themed show she knows.]

      • Don’t watch “Robotic Angel”. It’s a remake of Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis”, so watch that instead. You watched a better film by Rintaro last year ^.~

        (*sings* pengin pengin yona yona…)

          • Metropolis and Metropolis/robotic angel are totally different.
And the second’s finale with crazy music and total destruction is worth the rest of the film. I mean, I didn’t like it. But I understand why it is famnous and one should have seen it.

          • We did? Awesome.

My issue isn’t with what they changed plot-wise (I liked how they completely wreck the Ziggurath). My issue was with the way the plot & tone _really_ didn’t fit the cutesy, extra-rounded, Astro-Boy-ish character design. I just…it irked. It irked a lot, and during the entire film.

  3. @ anime-sillyness:
Well, that is a bit annoying. Like comical relievement.
Though I must say that some certain kinds of anime sillyness appeal to me. Like the headmaster in vampire knight breaking in tears of joy anytime Yuki calls him father. ^^ He’s the coolest character evah, he makes tomato-soup on the day of war.

I also love it when the anime drawings get more comical and less artistic (usually when there is more movement). Or when they get their angry teeth or their sweatdrop.
