What are you reading now?
Machine of Death (Ed. by Ryan North, Matthew Bennardo and David Malki)
Reaper Man (Terry Pratchett)
A Storm of Swords (George R.R. Martin)
Do you have any idea what you’ll read when you’re done with that?
I just got my copy of Kraken, so that’s pretty high up the list. I also wanted to re-read the first three Blacksad comics, so I can start reading number 4 without a hitch. And I still owe myself (and L.) a read of the Iliad. And then there’s A Feast for Crows. Which I’m probably not able to stay away from for long.
What’s the worst thing you were ever forced to read?
I honestly don’t know. I usually actually liked to read the books we had to read for school, even if it only was so I could tell people how stupid I thought the books were. And nobody else ever forced me to read anything.
What’s one book you always recommend to just about anyone?
There’s not one book that I recommend to everyone. I’m such a diverse reader and I realise that other people are not and therefore I usually change my recommendations according to the person I’m talking to. :)
Admit it, sadly the librarians at your library know you on a first name basis, don’t they?
Unfortunately, I’m a bad library user. Meaning, I don’t really go, because I obsessively want to own books.
Is there a book you absolutely love, but for some reason, people never think it sounds interesting, or maybe they read it and don’t like it at all?
Huh. There are things I plug to certain people who never seem to pick it up but I don’t really know why. Like Max Goldt. Or Lemony Snicket. And there are things only I (of my friends) seem to be interested in. Like Stephen King, Chuck Palahniuk or Bret Easton Ellis.
Do you read books while you eat?
While you bathe?
I rarely take a bath (I usually shower), but when I do it’s with the express intention to read while soaking in hot water.
While you watch movies or tv?
No. I can either read or watch, not both. If I try, reading usually wins out.
While you listen to music?
While you’re on the computer?
I read ebooks. I sometimes read books while I’m waiting for the computer to finish something. But usually, when I’m in front of the computer, I use the internet.
When you were little did other children tease you about your reading habits?
They didn’t so much tease me about that as about everything else. Reading was my escape and you’d always find me with my nose in a book if I had a spare minute. [Actually, that hasn’t changed much.]
What’s the last thing you stayed up half the night reading because it was so good you couldn’t put it down?
I had to kick myself to go to sleep while reading Play of Passion and the Song of Ice and Fire books. But before that, it had been a while. I try not to stay awake all night reading because I do have to work.
Have any books made you cry?
Of course. I cry easily enough.
