Sexual aberration – sesso perverso (1979)

[The final film of the /slash Filmfestival‘s special European evening.]

Sexual aberration (in German, it has the wonderful title “Libidomania”) is a movie by Bruno Mattei.

Plot:
It’s a kind of mockumentary, mixing archive footage from actual documentaries with scenes from erotic films and passages from more or less scientific books about human sexuality to create a map of various perversions, fetishes and generally unconventional sexual practices.

Libidomania [it is the better title, so I’m using it from now on :)] can not be taken seriously – and should not be taken seriously, either. It’s sleazy and very, very trashy. At the same time, it’s also incredibly entertaining. I have yet to see a movie that makes me go “What the Fuck” more often – and I’ve already seen Beastly. In short, it’s brilliant.

[Slight NSFW-ness after the jump.]

I think you have to like a certain type of film to appreciate Libidomania in all its glory. A few people actually left during the showing, which might have to do with the time this film was shown (it started at 00.30), but more likely has to do with the subject matter. There are some pretty disgusting scenes, at least if you don’t get off on coprophilia. And most people don’t.

But if you’re willing to sit through the crap [pun intended. I know, I know] and the gore [there is a badly FXed castration among other things], you will get treats such as this quote [I’m quoting from memory and the German version, so it might not be word for word]:

I’m 27 years old and the mother of 9 children. Things didn’t go very well with my husband in bed and now he makes me sleep with the dog two times a week.

Which is all kinds of hilarious.

And the whole film is full with this stuff. As I said, you have to have a certain kind of humor to enjoy it, but if you do, it’s really awesome. And it lends itself perfectly to late-night viewings in a crowd. For example, at one point, we get to see a guy who finds pustules and eczemas erotic. He’s continuously licking a woman’s sore skin. In that moment, a woman said rather loudly, “that’s disgusting”. And since we’ve already had the feces and the necrophilia and I don’t know what else, from another part of the cinema came the reply, “only now?” It’s moments like this where I like people talking during a movie.

Apart from the content, the editing was really bad. There were a lot of non-sequiturs, abrupt cutting and weird transitions. But that just added to the charm of the whole thing.

Summarising: If you can see yourself having fun with a bad, sleazy and trashy film, this one’s a must-see.
