Plot:
Two bureaucratic agencies – the East Bureau and the West Bureau – have been gaining, and abusing, power. Only a handful of people are rebelling against their rule. Among those are Zhao Gwai On (Jet Li). The events lead him and a very mixed group of people with very different goals to the Dragon Inn, right before a sandstorm is about to hit.

Flying Swords of Dragon Gate is a beautiful, beautiful movie – one were you really feel like the 3D pays off. And, despite weak plotting, it is fun and engaging.

The movie really is a visual feast and the fight scenes were beautiful as well, though at times they went a little too fast and I just wanted things to slow down, so I could drink it in more and see exactly what they are doing.

The plotting on the other hand was a little weak and did have some logical issues. It was also a little confusing as there were so many characters. But that was an easily forgivable offense as it really wasn’t the movie’s point.

I did enjoy that there were so many kick-ass women in this film. Even if it meant more characters than was necessary (or maybe good for the story), I’d prefer it that way any day – wouldn’t have wanted to miss any of them. I especially loved the Tartars and their leader.

The movie does take a while to get started but once everybody is assembled at the Dragon Inn, the story is well and truly underway. And then it is a whole damn lot of fun.

Summarising: very enjoyable.
