Everlast

Everlast is a rapper/singer-songwriter who came to Vienna for an acoustic concert.

I think it was in 2001 that I got Everlast tickets for my birthday (or maybe it was Christmas) and saw him live for the first time. And it was a great show. So when I heard that he came to Vienna again, I figured that I really had to see him. Then he played one of Vienna’s biggest concert halls, this time he played a small club and, as I said, an acoustic set. While the atmosphere couldn’t be more different, what stayed the same was how much I enjoyed it.

I have to admit that the audience was a little weird. There were many shout-outs during the show and especially one guy wouldn’t shut up. Though the weirdest moment was when a group of women actually cried out, “I wanna have your babies!” I mean, yes, Everlast’s a sexy man, I certainly wouldn’t kick him out of my bed, but seriously, are we teenagers at a Justin Bieber concert? Everlast did have a great reaction to that, though. “Well, you can’t have them. One is still in my wife’s belly, and the other I’m keeping. Thanks for the offer, though.”

He was generally very talkative, which I found extremely nice. He talked about his daughter who has Cystic Fibrosis (which, btw, is the explanation for his song 65 Roses – children mispronounce Cystic Fibrosis that way), about his concerts in Iraq for the troups, about touring in general, about his guitarist etc.

His setlist had quite a range – a lot of new songs, but also a lot of the old stuff, including the biggest hits like What It’s Like, Ends, Black Jesus and Put Your Lights On, of course, but also Children’s Story. Though he didn’t play all of my personal favorites – but that would have probably taken too long anyway. Although… it was by no means a short concert, but it could have definitely been much longer.

Summarising: a wonderful evening.
