Buttons

Some of you might have noticed the two new buttons in the sidebar.

One is for Towel Day (25th of May), a tribute to Douglas Adams. If you want to participate, all you have to do is carry a towel with you the whole day. Douglas Adams is well worth it to do that, I think. Plus, as we all know from the Hitchhiker’s Guide Towels always come in handy.

The other is for fuelmyblog. That’s a blog directory I’m trying out since two days. Up til now I’m not very convinced. The handling is awkward, you end up clicking in rounds because you can’t get where you want in one single click, and a lot of the blogs are dead and have not been updated for a long time (but still show up under the first hits).
Well, I’ll give it another week or so but if things aren’t better (read: I found some cool blogs there and got used to the navigation), I’ll kick it right out again.

  1. Great honest feedback. Really appreciate it.

We are writing a program to kick dead and un-updated blogs out, hopefully sooner rather than later. I am concerned about the user experience too and will be looking at that with the team too.

Re finding new blogs, there are a lot of great great blogs in the community, we manually review each new user to ensure there is zero spam or porn or even websites. So every cloud..! I really hope to see you in the community adding friends and using the vote facility to talk privately with other bloggers. If you care to feedback more in a week or so, please mail the team – help [at] fuelmyblog.com we do appreciate feedback and dictate new changes totally based upon it.

    Thanks

  2. @kevind:
Oh wow, someone’s actually reading my feedback :)

I think it’s great that you look into the not-updated blogs, thanks for that.

You know what would be cool: a “Browse Blogs” button somewhere… or maybe a Random Blog search thingy.
But that’s about all the additional feedback I have right now. When I think of something else, I’ll let you know!

  3. ….. and now you’re joining in!! – tee hee.
You must be demented to make me a friend …… so the least I can do is reciprocate …… whoooosh.

[If you want to get the max benefits from FMB, be noisy – it works for me]

  4. Its not that. I realised I was carrying a big bag with a lot of empty pockets. So i stuffed in this lil towel I had.

Or maybe the below sentence is ingrained in my subconscious:

A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitch hiker can have.

    :P

  5. @Kalafudra:
Nutritive substances? eww… :) (that’s if I am interpreting it right)

No, no where special. Just to office and back… :)

  6. @Swen:
If it wasn’t one a.m. I’d take the book and look for the quote with the nutrition. Maybe tomorrow :)

Well, if you ever go somewhere further (say Venus or so), be sure to let me know. Maybe I’ll tag along.

  7. There you go: (from Restaurant at the End of the Universe)

“Here, suck this,” said Roosta, offering Zaphod his towel.
Zaphod stared at him as if he expected a cuckoo to leap out of his forehead on a small spring.
“It’s soaked in nutrients,” explained Roosta.
“What are you, a messy eater or something?” said Zaphod.
“The yellow stripes are high in protein, the green ones have vitamin B and C complexes, the little pink flowers contain wheatgerm extracts.”
Zaphod took and looked at it in amazement.
“What are the brown stains?” he asked.
“Bar-B-Q sauce,” said Roosta, “for when I get sick of wheatgerm.”
    Zaphod sniffed it doubtfully.
Even more doubtfully, he sucked a corner. He spat it out again.
    “Ugh,” he stated.
“Yes,” said Roosta, “when I’ve had to suck that end I usually need to suck the other end a bit too.”
“Why,” asked Zaphod suspiciously, “what’s in that?”
    “Anti-depressants,” said Roosta.
