Truer Words Have Rarely Been Spoken

About Keanu Reeves:

As the second member of the dazed duet in “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” Keanu faced the challenge of building a career beyond slackertude most heinous. But whether he was doing Shakespeare, Siddhartha or Stoker’s Dracula, always seemed seconds away from an outburst of “Dude!”

  1. I agree with you completely on the matter. In the article, it is stated that Reeves was ill suited to play Neo. I agree with that too. Seeing Christian Bale in Equilibrium kinda made me think how much of a better choice he would have been for the role of Neo.

p.s. So long as we are throwing names in hindsight, the perfect guy to play Neo would have been Brandon Lee.

  2. Christian Bale is a better choice for almost anything… :P

Brandon Lee would have been cool as well. I actually didn’t think Keanu _that_ bad in Matrix, but there are lots of guys out there that could have made the first film better (for the second or third film, nothing short of a complete rewrite could have really saved them).

  3. I have this theory that if someone else had played John Constantine in Constantine, the whole movie would have been about 55 minutes in total. Takes Keanu a trillion years to say anything, even the simplest line…

  4. I liked Constantine. In this case, Keanu’s slowness and dudeness somehow fit. But you’re right. Imagine Jim Carrey as Constantine. You’d have about 10 minutes of movie :)
