Ennio Marchetto

[Okay, I was pretty sure that I posted a video of him a while ago, but I can’t find it anymore… Oh well.]

Ennio Marchetto is an Italian comedian. He has paper costumes which he changes on stage while performing playback songs. That might not sound like much, but believe you me: It’s absolutely awesome and piss-myself-funny. He came to Vienna with his current programme.

Okay, I guess you have to see for yourself what he does so you can picture it, so watch this if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Done? Good. ;)

As you can see, he has a rather broad musical spectrum. Though the majority of the songs was pop music, there was also some opera, some TV songs and some German evergreens. And he had the perfect costume for each occasion.

My favourite performances were definitely Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On and Kylie Minogue’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head – because they were pretty perfect copies of the music videos. And he has a bit were he transforms from Van Gogh’s Sunflowers to Van Gogh himself (including cutting of his ear), all set to Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy, which I thought awesome.

But more than there were just some great transformations you wouldn’t expect that way. Like Barbara Streisand to Wonderwoman, Cher to C-3PO, King Kong to Katy Perry and probably the best thing of all was The Queen of England transforming into Freddy Mercury.

Seriously, it’s hard to capture the feel of the show. Just know that you should definitely see it if you get the chance! [He’s touring Italy right now, but he’s coming to Berlin and the UK later this year.]

On a sidenote: I went with two of my sisters and my brother. On the way home, my sister said to me: “Do you know the TV show Queer Eye?”

“Well, there are these five gay guys who style one straight guy. Everybody has their specialty and one of them, Jay, is responsible for cultural events. He always tells the straight guy where he has to go and what’s in and stuff.”

“Well, you’re my Jay. You always get me to see things I’d never see otherwise and they’re usually awesome.”

So… anybody else needs to know where to go? ;)

  1. :D Did I tell you I moved you from the “Blogs I read” folder to the “Pop Culture” folder in my google reader list?

  2. Did I tell you that when I have to make intelligent cultural conversation I use your blog’s information? Sometimes even without mentioning that I haven’t read/seen the stuff I’m talking about. No one finds out as your information is far better than what most people actually remember :P
