Oh Well – Meme Monday

This week, we’ll look at reasons why god might be tempted to hate me…

  1. I’m an atheist. That’s gotta be pretty high up the list why God would hate me. If there is one, I guess zie has got to be pissed off that I don’t think zie exists, right?
  2. This goes of course hand in hand with: I refuse to go to church/mass, I view all religions as equally misguided (in the best case), churches/religions (institutions) should be abolished in my opinion and religious education should basically be transformed to historical culture studies or something.
    [God should probably smite me.]
  3. Looking at the Christian God, which is the one I’m most familiar with, there are many things I don’t respect in the teachings of the bible (though I do think most of the 10 commandments are pretty okay). Like the famous “not wearing clothes made from two different materials at the same time” thing.
  4. I fucking love shellfish.
  5. I had premarital sex. [Oh, and I don’t plan to get married but I do plan to have more sex in my life, so I guess I should say that I’ll continue to have premarital sex and I WILL NEVER HAVE ANY OTHER SEX.]
  6. I curse. A lot.
  7. I’m not baptised or anything else.
  8. I resisted several attempts by different people to convert me.
  9. I believe in science. And evolution.
  10. I don’t think homo-/trans-/inter-/a-/whatever-sexuals are evil.
  11. I don’t believe in (absolute) evil at all. Where there’s no absolute evil, there can be no absolute good. [And we’re back at reason No. 1.]

That’s all I can think of right now but I guess 11 reasons are more than enough. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that my continued existence is proof that god doesn’t exist.

  1. Weeeeell…that one’s easy.

Admittedly, I’m sitting on a lovely fence between agnosticism and atheism (and enjoying the scenery), but my reasoning would go something like this:
If God doesn’t exist, zie can’t hate me, being as zie is existentially challenged.
If God exists, then zie is omniscient and omnipotent, so zie new exactly what zie was doing when zie created me, so hating on me would be kind of pointless.

Btw, after writing stuff like that last sentence of your post, I’d stay away from barren hilltops for a while, just to be safe ^.~

    • “If God exists, then zie is omniscient and omnipotent, so zie new exactly what zie was doing when zie created me, so hating on me would be kind of pointless.”
      Love. That. Sentence.

Anyway, still not smitten. I guess I’m good. :)

  2. O, she was already doomed when she thought about writing this post. And as we know from Jurassic Park not even the toilet is a safe place.

And your idea of no absolute evil is devastating. It’s like “Hitler was a nice man when it comes to Blondie the dog.”
Personally I am very fond of a clear distinction of good and evil and I love thinking of them as absolute (not obsolete).
