Denjin Zabôgâ: Gekijô-ban [Karate-Robo Zaborgar] (2011)

Denjin Zabôgâ: Gekijô-ban
Director: Noboru Iguchi
Writer: Noboru Iguchi
Based on: the 70s TV show
Cast: Itsuji Itao, Yasushisa Furuhara, Mami Yamasaki
Part of: /slash Filmfestival

Plot:
The evil organisation Sigma are killing leaders around Japan and extracting their DNA to build a Super-Robot. The police are overwhelmed and the only one able to help is Daimon (Yasushisa Furuhara/Itsuji Itao) and his robot brother Zaborgar. So they take up their fight against Sigma and Miss Borg (Mami Yamasaki).

I did not get into Karate-Robo Zaborgar. It promises a whole lot of fun, but somehow it just isn’t whacky enough, despite the premise.

The movie starts off just fine. Cyborgs extracting DNA. A Robot that is continuously referred to as brother by Daimon – until said brother turns into a motorcycle and Daimon rides him (which my dirty imagination just couldn’t leave uncommented).

But the whole thing got old pretty quickly and then the movie is basically already over and then it starts again with an older Daimon and I just really lost interest and then I fell asleep.

I did like the Cyborg design though. It was almost pretty – a few metal buttons here and there. Would make cosplay pretty easy.

Summarising: not my cup of tea, but I can see other people enjoying it.
