Plot:
Mike (Michael McKiddy) wakes up in the middle of a zombie attack. Since he’s coherent and of normal intelligence, it takes him a bit to figure out that he’s a zombie himself. In fact, it’s only when he runs into Brent (Ross Kidder) who is in the same condition that he realizes it. While a normal zombie movie happens around them, with Jeremiah (Thomas Galasso) as the classic hero, Mike and Brent join forces to tell Mike’s former girlfriend Ellie (Natalie Victoria), whom Mike wanted to propose to before his death,  how he really feels about her.

Deadheads is at times a little silly, but it’s also very funny. Where Shaun of the Dead focused of the comedy in zombie movies, DeadHeads focuses on the romance* – and that works suprisingly well.

Mike is pretty much your standard nerdy romantic lead. As most of these, he has a certain Gary-Stu-y quality to him that usually amuses me slightly, but at least doesn’t bother me. And since basically all of the characters are slightly exaggerated genre clichés (the zombie as well as the RomCom genre), Mike fits right in.

Brent is the even more repulsive than usual sidekick. Jeremiah is the even more badass than usual hero of a traditional zombie film (and boy, could I understand the reaction of every woman on screen and off, whenever he took off his shirt. Which he does way too little for my taste). And so on.

And while the ending was almost too cheesy, though definitely in tune with the RomCom this movie is, there was enough humor and zombie action to not make it too sweet.

DeadHeads is not exactly a challenging film. But it is entertaining and really makes you laugh.

Summarising: Fun.

*It is also really remarkable how British Shaun of the Dead is and how American DeadHeads is.
