It’s not surprising that talent (or the complete lack of, as in my case) runs in families. But what I do think surprising is the number of siblings who can actually stand to be around each other so much to have a band. I love my siblings but if I had to spend more than six hours a day for a period longer than three weeks with any of them, we’d probably all go insane. [And I do think that that’s actually a rather high tolerance level.]
Anyways, there are quite a few bands out there with at least two siblings in them. So, let’s have a quick rundown.
[Just a quick note: I left out The Kinks, because I have posted so much about them already. Just note that they should actually be included on this list.]
10. Creedence Clearwater Revival – Bad Moon Rising
Creedence Clearwater Revival is another great 60s band, though in my experience, people know the songs, not the band.
Siblings: John and Tom Fogerty
9. The Corrs – Breathless
Very nice, very folksy Irish music. Breathless was their biggest hit.
Siblings: All of them
8. 30 Seconds to Mars – The Story
Emo at its finest. Definitely. [Isn’t it unfair that some people seem to be able to do everything? Sing, act, paint their eyes?]
Siblings: Jared and Shannon Leto
7. Bee Gees – How Deep Is Your Love?
No, that song isn’t by Take That originally. But I’m sure you knew that already.
Siblings: All of them
6. INXS – By My Side
INXS has many g00d songs, it’s hard to pick just one. But By My Side is probably my favourite.
Siblings: Andrew, Jon and Tim Farriss
5. Jet – Are You Gonna Be My Girl
Perfect song to crazily jump around to.
Siblings: Nic and Chris Cester
4. The Cranberries – Zombie
Beautiful song, great political message – what more could you want?
Siblings: Noel and Mike Hogan
3. Kings of Leon – Use Somebody
Use Somebody is just the latest in a series of great songs. Strongly recommended.
Siblings: Nathan, Caleb and Jared Followill (plus cousin Matthew Followill)
2. Radiohead – Karma Police
I don’t think I need to say anything about Radiohead, do I?
Siblings: Jonny and Colin Greenwood
1. Oasis – Wonderwall
I usually don’t like Oasis, but Wonderwall? I really, really love Wonderwall.
Siblings: Liam and Noel Gallagher
I really like the cranberries. My favorite song is Everything I said (“’cause if I died tonight would you hold my hand, would you understand…”)
Didn’t know about any of the bands (except for the Bee Gees) consisted of siblings. I thought the Kelly family was something specially special because of that… but it seems to be rather average.
The Cranberries are absolutely great. I love them, too.
And don’t worry – The Kelly Family are still very special. Very, very special.
[I shudder to think that I used to be a fan…]
