Plot:
The Waits family go on holidays by switching houses with a family in the small town of Nilbog. But their son Joshua (Michael Stephenson) is anxious, especially since the ghost of his grandfather (Robert Ormsby) keeps warning him about goblins. So while the father (George Hardy) and mother (Margo Prey) try to get settled and the daughter Holly (Connie Young) is busy with her boyfriend problems, Joshua’s attempts to save the family from the goblins who want to turn them into plants to eat them all grow increasingly frantic. And rightly so.

Troll 2 is legend. Supposedly the worst film in the world, I really had very high expectations of its suckiness. Astonishingly, these expectations were more than surpassed. Every time I thought, “This movie can not get any worse/entertaining”, they somehow managed to up the game. This movie really is a piece of art. Deliciously bad art.

I was completely floored by the fact that the movie is not only as bad as its reputation, but even worse. If they had set out to make a bad film, it would have been better than this. And they all did it without the slightest trace of irony in it at all. It is amazing. That a film really can be this bad… that anything can be this bad…

This movie has nothing, really nothing of good quality. The plot is the most ridiculous, nonsensical thing ever. The  dialogues are fascinatingly bad. To call the characters “characters” is insulting to every cardboard cut-out. The make-up and those troll masks … I don’t even know where to start with that.

And yet, despite – or maybe because – of that this movie is infinitely enjoyable, completely quotable and entertaining as hell. It’s a movie you could probably play in a loop all day long and it would take ages until you got tired of it because it is that crazy and crappy.

I can completely understand that people get obsessed with it and have Troll 2 parties and know it by heart. Because honestly, I’ve only seen it once and I’m already halfway there.

Summarising: Let’s watch it again together. And again.
