Plot:
Kyosuke (Ryôhei Suzuki) is still wearing Aiko’s (Fumika Shimizu) panties to transform into Hentai Kamen. But he’s also still struggling with being a perverse superhero, as is Aiko who asks him for her panties back. Kyosuke agrees, although only very reluctantly. But it’s just at that moment when a new villain enters the scene who seems to be stealing all the panties in the entire city, leaving Kyosuke helpless.
Hentai Kamen 2 has some very funny bits too offer, but it does overstay its welcome ever so slightly. That doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to watch, though, especially in a cinema filled with people in a boisterous mood – which is how I saw it.
I simply love the overflowing energy that is Hentai Kamen and its poking fun at various comic conventions. It’s wonderfully silly and irreverent, taking nothing seriously at all. It’s the perfect film to laugh about without having to put much thought into.
But that’s also one of its weaknesses, because it just rehashes a lot of what we’ve seen in the first film. There wasn’t much new about it, there is no character development (which already bothered me in the first film) and it ends just as it started – which is like the first one as well.
Since there is not much new about it and the film itself is also rather repetitively structured, there was no need for it to be two hours long and I think I would have liked it better if it had been shorter. It would have easily fit into a 80, 90 minutes film without losing anything but filler.
Be that as it may, Hentai Kamen worked for me and Hentai Kamen 2 worked for me as well for the most part. I laughed my ass off – and should there be a Hentai Kamen 3, I will be there.
